MLS announced Thursday that Columbus Crew forward Erik Hurtado has been re-signed through 2023 with an option for 2022.
Hurtado, who has been in the MLS for 10 years, was a free agent.
“We are delighted to welcome Erik back to the Crew for a second season,” Columbus president & general manager Tim Bezbatchenko said in a release. His experience in our league is a great asset, and he makes an excellent option for us up top and on the wing. Erik's hard work and dedication have been evident during the preseason, and we are excited to see him in action for the rest of the season."
Hurtado was acquired by Columbus last July from CF Montréal in a trade. In his current role, he projects as a depth option along with Gyasi Zardes and Miguel Berry. As a regular season player for Columbus, Montréal, Vancouver Whitecaps FC, and Sporting Kansas City, the 31-year-old has 19 goals and 11 assists over 140 games (60 starts). Vancouver selected him in the fifth round of the 2013 MLS SuperDraft.
